About Us.

We believe in extravagant welcome. This is why we insist that God's communion table is open, not closed, and God's gift and claim in baptism are irrevocable. We advocate justice for all. Our congregation extends hospitality as a sign of God's inclusive love. We teach that evangelism — offering bread to those in search of it — is God's mission. Our perspective is global, not provincial. We work with — not against — people of other faiths. Why? Because God is still speaking,

Our Vision

As followers of Jesus, our vision is to provide an Open and Affirming environment that welcomes everyone, offers a spiritual connection, and encourages questions while listening for God’s still-speaking voice.

Our Staff

Rev. Melissa Sternhagen
Pastor
[email protected]

Rev. Melissa Sternhagen was called as the pastor of St. Paul Congregational UCC in June of 2020. Prior to her call to St. Paul, Pr. Melissa worked as a hospice chaplain in the Ames, IA area, following pastorates at rural churches in Central Iowa and Southern Illinois.

Julia Fairchild
Administrative Assistant
[email protected]

Julia Fairchild is a proud resident of Oskaloosa. Graduating from Eddyville-Blakesburg-
Fremont High School with honors, she then began working in banking and mental health
fields. When she is not working, she enjoys crocheting, knitting, and sewing. She loves
her family, growing up with her 2 sisters, Katie and Lillian, and her parents, Richard and
Karen. The strong principles and faith she now lives by was instilled in her by her
parents. She started her career at St. Paul’s at the end of March 2023. She loves the
scripture of Colossians 3:17, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in
the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to the Father through him.”

Our Mission

To accomplish our vision, our Mission is to be:
1. Committed to finding ways to worship God that are relevant to all ages.
2. Open to questions and discussion as part of our faith journeys.
3. Welcoming of everyone and respectful of the diversity each person brings.
4. Active in our ministry beyond the walls of our church.
5. Responsive to the needs of others both locally and in our world.
6. Thoughtful in the use of our gifts and talents in ways that will strengthen us as a congregation and community.
"No matter who you are or where you are on life's journey, you're welcome HERE."
